Canvas Season Is NOW! If you’re considering replacement, repair or upgrade of canvas, isinglass or upholstery on your vessel, now is the time to act! Diana LeClair and Diane Duke of Carriage House Canvas have been learning about new products and techniques. A very exciting new product that you may want to consider is called “Uzip”, which has a rain flap and optional screen. Diana and Diane attended week long training seminars in Florida last month to learn about Uzip and other new products and techniques in boat canvas. Later this month they will attend the Chesapeake Marine Canvas Fabricators Convention in Ocean City. They continue to get the latest in product updates and samples for their customers. Call Carriage House Canvas at 410-348-5778 to discuss your project or to inquire about new product information for your boat.
HARBOR HOUSE NEWS Great News! The Harbor House is now open for dinner Friday and Saturday evenings (weather permitting). New for this year is a redesigned menu that includes both the traditional favorites and creative new selections. Also, coming soon, Chef Robbie will host special “Secrets of the Chef” nights, where he will have cooking demos in the dining room. In addition to learning cooking tips, you will be able to participate in the action! We’ll keep you posted as to time and schedule. The direct line to the restaurant is (410) 778-0669. If in doubt about the weather call ahead! We’ll see you there! We’ve got some empty slips to fill and have decided to run a promotion! We are offering a $300 rebate to any current slipholder that refers a new seasonal slip holder to us. Just call and refer a new slipholder to us. Once the new slipholder has completed their 2010 full season slip contract we will send you a check for $300 as a thank you for the referral! Please call Libby at extension 11 for details.
FROM THE ENGINE ROOM Hello from Worton Creek where I’m still cold and anxiously awaiting spring. We started out the month with cold temperatures and ice on the creek and, despite a mid month thaw, ended up the month with cold temperatures and ice on the creek. The good news is that in about six more weeks we’ll be through the worst and looking at springtime. We’re busy at work on our various winter projects with an eye on our spring deadlines. We’re in pretty good shape schedule wise and should be ready for the spring rush. One of our more interesting projects is to install a vinyl teak deck in the cockpit of the 31 foot Bertram we’re painting. The product is called Nu-teak and it really looks like a wooden teak deck without all the problems. Danny Andrew and I went to a two day school to learn how to install the decking. I’m also planning on using the Nu-teak on the Burger. I’ll keep you posted on the deck installation. We made some progress on the Burger this month. The island is almost finished and we’re starting to put it together in the galley. (We built it in the carpenter shop but it’s too big to go on the boat in one piece. I’m glad we figured out that it was too big before we glued it all together in the shop!) We started building the galley countertops out of Corian and hopefully will be installing them in February. We also continued working on the electrical distribution system in the boat. The main distribution panel has been reinstalled in the engine room and I’ve got wire strung all over as we start to rewire the boat and the panel and tie it all together. Hopefully we will be able to power things up in late February or early March. On a personal note things are quiet on the home front. Libby is planning a trip to Victoria to visit with Beth and John. Martha and Amy are staying busy with their jobs and active social calendars. Well, I think that’s about it for this month. In a few short weeks we’ll be starting the 2010 Boating Season and I’m really looking forward to it! Happy Boating! John
